ABOUT THE SCHOOL:

We educate confident, responsible and engaged learners from pre-school through to high school. Our students take the Cambridge International Exams, IGCSE and the AS/A Level Exams.

THE POSITION:

The school is seeking to recruit a well experienced and passionate A-level Biology Teacher with demonstrable commitment to excellence which leads to the provision of holistic education for all the students through teaching with expertise and enthusiasm, offering support to the learning needs of individual students and contributing to the school’s pastoral system.

He/She shall continuously review the IGCSE/A-Level Biology curriculum to make it relevant to both students and teachers.

 RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Planning, preparing and teaching methods that will engage students and stimulate their intellectual curiosity including the use of effective questioning, clear presentation and good use of the available resources. Planning should show a clear understanding of the biology curriculum goals and expectations leading to progression within the structure of the curriculum.
  • Identifying clear teaching objectives, content, structures and sequences of lessons appropriate to the educational needs of students.
  • Using an appropriate range of teaching strategies and resources, including e-learning, which meet learners’ needs and expectations and are designed to raise levels of attainment.
  • Setting appropriate, realistic but challenging expectations for student learning – building on prior attainment.
  • Identifying students who may require additional support and know where to get help in order to give positive and targeted support.
  • Using language appropriate to learners, introducing new ideas and concepts clearly, and using explanations, questions, discussions and plenaries effectively.
  • Managing the learning of individuals, groups and whole classes effectively, using teaching techniques appropriate to suit the stage of the lesson and the needs of learners.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date working knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies, including how to personalise learning to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential, incorporating these in the planning and delivery of lessons.
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils. Using data to inform practice.
  • Setting high expectations for student behaviour, establishing and maintaining an excellent standard of behaviour management through positive and productive relationships in accordance with the behaviour rules.
  • Advising and co-operating with the head and other teachers on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements.
  • Contributing as appropriate to the development of schemes of work and adhering to schemes of work when planning and teaching.
  • Knowing and implementing the assessment requirements and arrangements for the subject/curriculum areas they teach, including those relating to public examinations and qualifications.
  • Assigning and grading projects and examinations.
  • Recording and reporting on students’ progress.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

 

QUALIFICATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology. A Master’s degree in the same field is preferable with at least 4 years teaching experience with the Cambridge IGCSE/A-Level Curriculum for Biology.
  • Relevant certification or license required.
  • Capacity to deliver biology lessons at the A- Level.
  • Passion for the teaching of Biology which you share enthusiastically with both colleagues and students.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of what makes quality and effective Biology provision and the utilisation of teaching strategies that raise student achievement.
  • Willingness to offer regular additional support to students outside of normal teaching time.
  • Willingness to give up time beyond the school week to accompany students on field trips.
  • Evidence of teaching high achieving students across all phases, and the ability to extend able students.
  • Evidence of recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities. Outstanding problem-solving skills.
  • A desire to participate in the wider life of the school, contributing with enthusiasm to extracurricular clubs and activities on a regular basis.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
