Newmont Mining Corporation is searching for a suitably qualified or experienced candidate to fill in the position of Management Systems Coordinator
About This Role:
- Lead development and maintenance of the site’s Integrated Management Systems (IMS) to ensure the continuous improvement and where required the continued accreditation to ISO 14001, compliance to Newmont Standards, National and International commitments such as the Cyanide Code.
- This role also leads and provide expert resource in the identification and management of Operational Risk and Opportunity within Ahafo mining operations and functional management groups as well as leading in driving and maintaining the sustainment activities of the Ahafo Operations’ Management Operating Systems (MOS) and be the Go-to Person, ensuring Newmont Tools, Systems, Processes and Enablers remain functional and are enhanced over time as requirements change remit includes supervision of site-wide document control.
In This Role You Will:
Management Operations Systems
- Lead in the coordination of Ahafo Operations Management Operating System sustainment activities to ensure that these activities aligned with site and regional business processes and priorities. These include:
- Coordinate the development of site-wide Objectives, Targets and Plan (OTPs).
- Coordinate, facilitate and maintain the Site-Wide Tactical Planning process, Mining and Processing Strategic Tactical Planning Process
- Coordinate and facilitate the Site Wide routine review meetings such as the Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Reviews of OTPs and Strategic Objective Road Maps
- Coordinate and facilitate Ahafo Operations Management Operating System relevant element Compliance Audits and Maturity Evaluations. Ensure Audit results are made available and used by Management
- Provide Africa Region oversight support in sustainment of MOS.
- Assist preparing meeting charters and agendas for business planning meetings and other business process.
- Be the Go-to Person, ensuring Newmont MOS Tools, Systems, Processes and Enablers remain functional and are enhanced over time as requirements change
- Lead the region in ensuring current business changes are updated business process flows & SOPs.
Additional Responsibilities:
Newmont Integrated Management Systems
- Lead the Newmont Integrated Management System Programmes at Ahafo, which included but not limited to:
- Ensure that the Ahafo Operation’s Integrated Management System is maintained to meet the requirements of Newmont Corporate, ISO 14001, and Legal and Voluntary Commitments
- Ensure departmental compliance with statutory acts and regulations and consent conditions
- Identify competencies required by staff to use the Integrated Management Systems effectively and liaise with the Learning & Development Department on training needs
- Being responsible for the development and deployment of schedules, site wide coordination and execution of 1st and 2nd Line Assurance (LOA) audits Including supporting 3rd Line of Assurance Audit where required
- Facilitate and Ensure Site Leadership Team develops improvement Actions for both 1st and 2nd Line Assurance (LOA) audits and monitor its implementation and close-out.
- Ensure that field verifications and effectiveness review are conducted for closed out Actions to increase assurance.
- Lead and provide facilitation of Root Cause Analysis for all non-conformities from audits.
- Ensure sustainment of IMS governance team to function as required by the standard o Lead or participate in 1st & 2nd Line of Assurance Audits
- Ensure Site Leadership IMS Management Review are conducted in accordance with Leadership and Management Review Standards
- Oversee the development and implementation of the site-wide document control programme.
Additional Responsibilities:
Operational Risk Management
- Lead and manage cross functional teams in the performance of team-based risk assessment and mitigation planning using Newmont Mining Corporations standard risk assessment guidelines and methodologies in all areas of business activity.
- Being primarily responsible for leading site operation and support teams in the creation and ongoing development of site-wide risk register and risk mitigation action plans in accordance with Newmont’s global standards and site risk and opportunity management process. These risk registers and risk mitigation action plans will be consolidated at a Site wide level and monitored for currency and effectiveness on an ongoing basis.
- Lead operational and support teams in undertaking high level risk reviews and detailed control analysis for significant risks, utilizing Newmont Mining Corporation’s designated risk management methodologies.
- Drive site-wide application of management of change (MOC) process including risk assessments of all planned and/or proposed operational changes and the maintenance of the (MOC) Register. Being primarily responsible for the creation and development specified Site and corporate risk reporting and compliance requirements as well as enabling escalation of sub-standard risk controls and emerging risks to the site leadership for swift intervention.
- Lead the Newmont’s Property Equipment Reliability Risk Assessment (PERRA) Programme at Ahafo Operations and ensure loss scenarios are managed through site risk management process and action plans are followed to completion.
- Lead the drive to increase employees/contractors understanding of Newmont’s designated risk management processes, methodologies, and tools in consultation with L&D.
- Lead Supplier Risk Management Working group in contractor risk assessment.
Staff Management
- Supervise allocated staff member(s) by:
- perform performance appraisals.
- recommend further/relevant training courses and development actions in accordance with Newmont’s people development program.
- recommend salary increases or promotions for staff.
- approve leave.
- enhance communication with staff through regular feedback, contact, meetings and briefings, etc.
Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
- A tertiary qualification (degree/diploma) in business administration, Health and Safety, engineering, management studies, mining, geology, metallurgy or senior operations leader with General Foreman/Superintendent capability or be studying toward a tertiary qualification in Health Safety and Loss Prevention, Risk Management, or a similarly appropriate professional stream.
- Possess a formal Lead Auditor qualification in either ISO 14001:2015 Management System and/or ISO 450001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management.
- Possess Accredited International Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental Management qualification e.g. the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety & Health (NEBOSH) Certificate.
- Post Graduate qualifications and/or membership of a recognised risk management professional association would also be highly regarded

- The incumbent is expected to have a good understanding of (or ability to learn) the ISO31000 Risk Management Standard and a working knowledge of US, UK, and Australasian Operational Risk Management protocols.

Additional Responsibilities on Experience Required:
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years’ work experience in a technical or supervisory role within the health and safety field in a medium to large organization working in the mining/mineral processing /manufacturing / petroleum / petrochemical area would be highly regarded.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in health, safety, environment and social systems field in the extractive, construction, engineering, etc. industries.
- Good understanding of Environmental, Health and Safety Management Systems.
- Health, Safety, Environmental and Social Systems Auditing training and/or experience is essential.
- Sound knowledge of risk management and loss prevention, environmental impact mitigation best practices and processes.
- Thorough understanding of the aspects and impacts of mining activities, and the health, safety, environmental, social mitigations and controls deployed to manage these impacts and risks.
- Sound knowledge of Integrated Management Systems.
- Demonstrate technical skills in one or more of the following risk assessment methodologies:
- Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- HAZOPS. Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)

Working Conditions
- Position is located at the Ahafo South mine.
- Some domestic travel to other sites and Accra may be required.
- Additionally, mining operations are 24/7 operations and as such it is expected that some flexibility with working hours will be needed to fit in with site operations and to maximize the value of travel to and from sites.
- Occasional international travel may be required as deem right by Corporate, Region and Site.
