AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.
AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited is seeking applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Clerk of Works, Mechanical
ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT
The Clerk of Works (COW)-Mechanical is accountable for overseeing the Quality of the Installation and refurbishment works on the Surface and Underground Structural, Mechanical, Platework and Piping (SMPP). The COW will be responsible for the supervision and administration of the Contractor daily, weekly, and monthly time sheets. The COW will also be responsible for weekly survey of the quantity of material installed and progress report as per schedule.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Accept personal responsibility for Health, Safety and Environment of every mine team member and is an ambassador for Occupational Health and Safety and lead by example.
- Responsible and accountable for their team’s environmental obligations and performances by conducting informal meetings with team and reporting any weaknesses in the environmental procedures.
- Enforce all environmental work procedures that have been issued by the Departmental Manager.
- Investigate all environmental incidents in their assigned work areas. Immediately after an incident, complete an incident report form and submit to the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative. A preliminary investigation report and any recommendations for preventing a recurrence should be included on the incident report form.
- Attend all scheduled and assigned environmental training meetings.
- Act on all employee environmental complaints and suggestions.
- Oversee and inspect the mechanical fabrication works, installations and refurbishment works to ensure that the infrastructure adheres to AGAG’s requirements with respect to relevant specifications, drawings and General Arrangements drawings.
- Ensure the installation is presented in a professional and manner and fully functional.
- Prepare and conduct walkdowns of construction sites and workshops areas.
- Produce and maintain a punch-list register generated from the walkdowns and C1-C4 commissioning.
- Produce Non-conformance reports and participate in the solution process as these matters arise.
- Ensure the correct submittal from contractor time sheets on a weekly basis, sign off on Monthly claim and invoice from contractor.
- Work compliantly with the requirement of government of Ghana agencies, environmental, health and safety legislation and AGAG regulations.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification
-
A degree in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent.
- Trade background or higher in a Mechanical discipline.
- Management certification.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in SMPP fabrication and installations in a mining environment.
- Previously held QA/QC roles in a construction phase of mining projects.
- Familiarity with Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health Safety and Technical) Regulation
Legal Requirement
- Must possess relevant certificate of competency from Minerals Commission of Ghana
Technical Competencies
- Able to prepare and execute subsystem walkdowns in a timely manner.
- Be able to understand and interpret the content of different types of QA/QC forms and reports.
- Be able to understand fabrication and installation drawings.
- Be able to understand and implement drawings.
- Address any deficiencies in the SMPP fabrication and installation processes and procedure either directly or through normal chain of command.
