The second phase of the Equity project (www.programme-equite.org) to support the development of Fair Trade in West Africa will begin in October 2019. It operates in Ghana, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Mali, Togo and Benin. Its objective is to contribute to the development of Ghana by supporting the development of fair trade sectors.

 

Job Description

 

SENIOR NATIONAL TECHNICAL ASSISTANT – GHANA, Research Agronomists and Veterinarians Without Borders
Agronomes et Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (AVSF) has been implementing with Commerce Equitable France (CEF) since 2019, the EQUITE Program which is in its second phase and which aims to contribute to sustainable economic development, to fight against poverty and to strengthen the farming by supporting the development of fair trade sectors, resilient to the effects of climate change in West Africa.
The EQUITE program has 5 main objectives:
  1. Support the structuring of producer organizations in southern countries, and support the sectors in which they operate by developing fair trade,
  2. Strengthening the commercial, governance and management capacities of fair trade cocoa cooperatives in Côte d\’Ivoire,
  3. Strengthen the institutional ecosystems of fair trade,
  4. Use fair trade as a means of accelerating the ecological transition of means of production and processing, ultimately leading to organic certifications,
  5. Promote gender equality and the integration of young people in fair trade value chains,
The EQUITE 2 program has been implemented since 2019 separately between these six West African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d\’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Togo. All certified products are eligible: cocoa, fruit (mango, pineapple, baobab, etc.), shea, cashew nuts, crafts, sesame, coffee, hibiscus, etc.
The Principal National Technical Assistant will be based in Accra. He/she will take office on March 20, 2023. He/she will have a one-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal. The work of the Principal National Technical Assistant would require very regular field visits to project beneficiary sites.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
  • Support Producer Organizations in the implementation of activities supported by the project,
  • Support the Fair Trade Ghana network to implement the activities supported by the project,
  • Support capitalization work on innovations supported by the program in Ghana,

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Agronomist or Agro-economist with at least 5 years\’ experience in the field of organizational and economic strengthening of producer organizations and fair trade sectors.
  • Master the principles and objectives of Fair Trade.
  • Being bilingual (French/English) is an asset.
