Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited (CNML) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Shandong Gold Mining Co. Ltd., which is duly listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) and Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE). CNML is developing its’ primary asset located in the Upper East Region of Ghana with a strategic vision to build a world-leading, highly valuable and responsible world-class gold mining enterprise.

 

Job Description

 

Job Purpose

This role ensures infield implementation of CNML’s Environmental plan and serves to support the project to meet the requirements of the Environmental Management systems and driving environmental initiatives in the workplace(infield) whilst ensuring that environmental related legislations are adhered to.

Primary Accountabilities (Duties & Responsibilities)

  • Provide proactive and professional environmental advice to Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited (CNML) Project Team and contractor teams on site
  • Ensure environmental regulations are complied with by Cardinal Project Team and Contractors. This includes ensuring improvement actions are implemented to requirements, monitored, and continuously assessed.
  • Support the development of environmental policies, procedures, sustainability efforts and programs
  • Monitor the implementation of the project environmental management plan and related procedures. This includes ensuring field monitoring is done to establish a baseline for levels of pollutions or contamination for the project
  • Support auditing measures and carry out specific environmental auditing duties and inspections
  • Oversee waste management schemes, such as at CNML landfill sites as well as supervising the transportation of waste to ensure that it takes place efficiently without contaminating air, land or water sources.
  • Coordinate with external laboratories for environmental sample delivery and follow up with quality issues in laboratory data; interpret data and write detailed environmental reports
  • Ensure that biodiversity recommendations are met on site and protected species are undisturbed.
  • Perform any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Company as assigned by the Supervisor.

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

Minimum qualification (s)

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental management, natural resources, engineering, biological or natural sciences or related field.
  • HSE Officer’s certificate of competence from Minerals Commission is a must.
  • Relevant Professional certification e.g. NEBOSH International General Certificate
Experience (Minimum)
  • Minimum of 7 years in the extractive, mining, manufacturing and/or Mine Construction industry
Knowledge
  • Proven experience of carrying out site environmental audits
  • Past environmental monitoring in accordance with compliance targets and regulations
  • Competence in leading some investigations into environmental incidents
  • Experience in AKOBEN: environmental performance rating and disclosure initiative of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • Experience in coordination of waste management processes
  • Proven ability to champion environmental causes within organizations and lead on best practice
Skills
  • Understanding of core environmental principles and regulations
  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong IT abilities
  • Driving ability and driver’s license category B
  • Can work to deadlines and under pressure
