The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding, Ghana (WANEP-Ghana) is a non-profit making peacebuilding Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). It is a civil society institution meant to prevent, resolve, and transform violent conflicts through collective and coordinated efforts of NGOs, local and national state institutions as well as individuals actively engaged in peacebuilding practice in Ghana in order to avoid the duplication of efforts and maximize resources for more effective responses to conflict situations. The organization seeks to facilitate the creation of a sustainable culture of non-violence, justice, peace and social reconciliation in Ghanaian communities.

 

Job Description

 

WANEP is a West Africa sub-regional NGO whose mission is to enable and facilitate the development of mechanisms for cooperation among civil society-based peacebuilding practitioners and organizations in West Africa. It has offices (National Network Offices) in 15 countries in West Africa. The Ghana office with its National Secretariat located in Tamale, is seeking an experienced person to fill the position of a DRIVER for a project dubbed Trust2Peace funded by USAID through the University of Maryland. The successful applicant will be stationed in Tamale with frequent travels to project districts in northern Ghana.
Key Responsibilities 
  • Ensure regular vehicle repairs and maintenance are conducted timely and professionally.
  • Keep any vehicle assigned to you for use clean and in good operational condition at all times.
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements such as road worthiness, insurance, triangles, fire extinguishers, first aid, etc. are up-to-date and in place.
  • Safely drive staff, officials and partners as assigned in the discharge of their roles.
  • Ensure vehicle mileage is regularly and appropriately documented in the assigned vehicle logbook.
  • Provide official logistical support to aid the work of project team, officials and WANEP-Ghana’s staff.
  • Undertake other related duties as assigned by your supervisor(s).

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a professional driving capacity especially in the NGO field.
  • Possess a minimum of a high school certificate or diploma from an accredited institution. A professional auto-mechanics training certificate will be an added advantage.
  • Applicants must be a minimum of 30 years of age.
  • Willing and available to travel on short notice and work extra time.
  • Willing to dress professionally and maintain basic driving ethics and values.
  • Speak English fluently and have good writing skills.
  • Possess a valid driving license; not below category C.
  • Possess very good knowledge of the travel routes of northern Ghana.
  • Be culturally and conflict-sensitive, and be a good team player.
