Job Description
Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE), Inc. doing business as CARE International in Ghana is seeking talented, motivated and innovative District Project Officers (DPOs)– PROSPER III Project, who will work closely with the Zonal Project Coordinator (ZPC) to implement project activities in the cocoa districts within the Central, Ashanti and Western North Regions of Ghana.
The PROSPER III Project seeks to increase food production, productivity and income in ways that are resilient to climate change whiles empowering women, improving nutrition-sensitive agriculture, and reducing environmental impact reaching a direct target of 95,200 people. The project will be managed from the Kumasi sub-office of CARE International in Ghana.

- Increase women’s leadership and agency,
- increase women’s access to and control of productive resources,
- Enhance women’s access to inclusive markets and
- Improve strategic partnerships and advocacy.

JOB PROFILE
The District Project Officers (DPOs) will be based at Assin Fosu, New Edubiase, Nyinahin and Wiawso districts in the Central, Ashanti and Western North Regions respectively and will be required to work in 20 communities in the district in which she/he will be based. The DPO will be working with group promoters based in the communities to implement key project activities such as VSLA management, financial and market literacy trainings, Gender and stakeholder interface dialogues. The DPO will report directly to the Zonal Project Coordinator.
Some Key Responsibilities for this role:
- Working with Group Promoter Leads and Group Promoters based in the communities to implement key project activities such as VSLA management, financial literacy training and onboarding of VSLAs onto Chomoka.
- Develop, manage and supervise relationships with group promoters and promote the use of participatory performance tracking for learning among community groups.
- Provide technical support to group promoter leads for awareness creation and sensitization activities in project partner communities
- Training of group promoter leads and group promoters on VSLA protocols/principles, financial literacy, gender dialogues, marketing, leadership, and negotiation skills.
- Preparation of monthly reports, activity plan and budget, expense reports and technical reports.
Required Skills or Experience
- A good first degree or Diploma from a recognized University or Tertiary Institution in Social Work, Social Science, Community Development, Adult Education, or other related courses.
Knowledge
- Knowledge on the formation and training of VSLAs
- Appreciable working knowledge of Akan customary practices
Experience
- At least two years of field experience in working with communities, community- based organizations (CBOs) especially farmer-based organizations (FBOs) with an NGO or public sector agencies
- Experience in facilitating linkages, relationship building and networking
- Experience in adult training methodologies such as the use of PRA/PLA tools and Community Action Planning
- Excellent knowledge of the cocoa sector
- Appreciable working knowledge of Akan customary practices
- Ability to demonstrate Community development and facilitation skills.
- Able to work with minimum supervision and able to meet deadlines.
