Description
- The driver is expected to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds, and be able to assist in basic administrative tasks.
- Posted in Accra, Ghana under the overall supervision of the UNODC Representative for West and Central Africa and under the substantive guidance of the Deputy Regional Representative- Programme and Policy Coordinator or Law Enforcement Advisor – (Head Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking and Terrorism Section) at ROSEN, and the direct supervision of the UNODC National Programme Coordinator in Ghana.
- The Driver will be responsible for providing reliable and safe driving services to UNODC and other high ranking UN officials and visitors, and to ensure highest standards of discretion, integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provision of reliable and secure driving services;
- Proper use of vehicle;
- Day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicle;
- Availability of documents / supplies.
- Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by;
- Driving office vehicle for the transport of UNODC staff, other high-ranking officials, and visitors; delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items; and
- Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
- Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle
- Through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs;
- Provide data for the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports;
- Organizing major repairs, oil changes, checking tires and brakes, washing the car, etc.
Maintain the car
- Performing minor repairs in a timely manner;
- Organizing repairs, organizing major repairs, oil changes, checking tires and brakes, washing the car, etc.
- Ensuring the legality of the vehicle
- Ensures availability of all the required documents / supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city, first aid kit and necessary spare parts;
- Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement of accident.
- Institutional Arrangement
- The driver will report to the National Programme Coordinator of UNODC Ghana.

Required Skills and Experience Education:
- Completion of Secondary School Education;
- Valid Driver’s license.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ work experience as a driver in an international institution, governmental organization, embassy or UN system. Additional work experience is considered as an asset;
- Safe driving records;
- Knowledge of driving rules and regulations;
- Skills in minor vehicle repairs;
- Driving experience with the UN system or any international organization will be an advantage.
Language:
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in the language of duty station (oral and written English) is required.
