Job Description
Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE), Inc. doing business as CARE International in Ghana is seeking a talented, motivated and resourceful Community Extension Project Officer, WeGrow Project. The successful candidate will be responsible for training Project participants in digital literacy, accessing digital material through Bluetown’s Local Cloud and supporting Project participants taccess digital services and content. This will be done while building and maintaining relationships with local stakeholders and leading on the implementation of new approaches.
Mobilization and organization of community members
- Mobilize community leaders and existing institutions such as Traditional Authorities (TA) to provide the requisite information on the project activities.
- Conduct periodic surveys, in collaboration with the MEAL Officer, on the needs of farmers and project participants on the type of content that will be relevant for their needs
- Identify and mobilize farmer groups and project participants for training in accessing agriculture and non-agricultural content through the LOCAL CLOUD
Supporting youth to develop innovative digital solutions:
- Support with the planning of local hackathon/townhall meetings
- Collaborate with the MEAL Officer to present the challenges faced by farmers to youth entrepreneurs
- Support farmers and other productive groups (as may be necessary) to test the digital solutions developed by the young entrepreneurs and conduct surveys to gather feedback for the entrepreneurs for improvement
Support in the development of digital application model:
- Recommend BLUETOWN promising youth in the communities which can be recruited as BLUETOWN Micro-Operators to work as digital agents
- Organize trainings for Micro-Operators to support farmers to use digital agriculture content
- Provide ongoing support Micro-Operators in providing services to the farmers and other productive groups in project implementation area
Documentation of Project processes and lessons:
- Ensure production of relevant, quality, captivating and user-friendly information from the project that can be converted in to communication material
Required Skills or Experience
- At least 3 years of relevant working experience, including a minimum of three years’ field practical experience in working with rural communities, including women groups.
- Strong experience in community mobilization, engagement and the training of farmers
- Proven experience and understanding of digital innovation for agricultural rural development
- Experience of working closely with partners and stakeholders is key to this position
- Experience with dominant cultures of Hohoe
- Good spoken and written English, fluency in Ewe and Twi is required
- Ability to adjust to frequently changing Project approaches
- Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multitask and work within deadlines
- Proficient in use of Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, Powerpoint & Outlook (or similar software)
- Excellent analytical skills, good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to ride a motorbike in rural terrains (licensed rider) is required
- Strong team player
- Proven and demonstrable facilitation skills, negotiation skills and networking skills including facilitating change, innovation and initiating action
- Ability to multitask and work within deadlines
