Job Description

Women Training on the Design and Production of Quality Reusable Sanitary Pads and Kits.

Background
Investing in Girls Education in Africa (IGEA) works to advocate and improve quality access to education by young girls living in rural communities in Africa, ending period poverty among girls and young women and promoting entrepreneurship and employability skills for young women in Africa.

IGEA programme, Menstruate and Educate since 2019 has provided over 3,000 washable/reusable period products to girls in rural communities in Ghana, reaching over 500 girls, 9 schools, and an all-girls’ juvenile prison in Accra. As a result, beneficiary girls\’ monthly average school absenteeism decreased from an average of 5 days per month to 2 days per month and their confidence in the participation of class lessons increased by at least an extra 25%. Through the community workshops around menstruation and the cultural taboos, the programme has also been able to reach over 500 community leaders, parents, and teachers.

Programme overview

IGEA in partnership with The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust (QCT) under its ‘Youth Ventures Programme’ is working to create opportunities for women through skills training and livelihood interventions as part of efforts to empowering women and scaling-up impact in rural communities in the Upper East Region. The programme is also working with stakeholders in education and health to improve girls transition and performance outcomes at the basic level.

The objective of this assignment is to promote young women and girls’ access to affordable washable/reusable sanitary pads and kits through hands-on training for women and girls on quality design and production.

Assignment Scope

This assignment would involve the conduct of capacity gaps assessment of 12 identified women beneficiaries in the delivery of washable/reusable sanitary pads in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The resource person will further design and develop a training module or curriculum to be used in the training of the beneficiaries. This training module or curriculum would be concise with pictorial illustrations to ensure easy understanding and application by the trainees.

The assignment will also involve the resource person undertaking training for the 12 already profiled women, dressmakers in the design and production of quality reusable sanitary pads and kits using diverse materials.

Deliverables

  • Training module or curriculum on washable/reusable sanitary pads and kits designed and applied.
  • Training delivered for 12 women, leading to the application of skills and knowledge by the trainees to produce quality washable/reusable sanitary pads and kits.
  • A training report submitted at the end of the assignment.

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in the design of training module or curriculum for adult learning purposes.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the training of stakeholders in the design and production of reusable sanitary pads and kits.

 

How To Apply

 

Proposals

  1. A technical proposal including team skills, experience, resources required and work plan (a maximum of 3 pages).
  2. A financial proposal (a maximum of a page). The financial proposal shall specify a total lump sum amount with the breakdown including; service fees, travel/accommodation, working days etc. The financial proposal should also include the proposed payment plan from the perspective of the bidder.

All bidders must attach the following to their proposals.

  • A copy of at least one previous training report on washable/reusable sanitary pad products development or production.
  • CVs of the resource persons
  • Photocopies of certificate of incorporation, certificate to commence business if the application is submitted in the name of an institution.

Timeframe and deadlines

The assignment is for a duration of 15 working days to be undertaken between 22nd August and 23rd September, 2022.

The bidder is expected to submit the technical and financial proposals and accompanying required documents electronically to info@igeaenterprise.org. The deadline for submission of all bids is Tuesday, 16th August, 2022.
