Newmont Mining Corporation is a leading global gold producer with key assets in Nevada, Peru, Australia, Ghana and Suriname.

Newmont’s Africa Operations holds two gold mining operations in Ghana: the Ahafo Mine located in the Brong-Ahafo region and the Akyem Mine located in the Eastern region. There is also near mine exploration and development focus in Ghana to annually replace gold reserves. Newmont Africa also has early-stage exploration programs in the African countries of Ethiopia and Morocco.

 

About This Role
  • Plan, conduct, and lead studies including risk management, value improving practices, alternatives evaluation, procurement, and cost / scheduling.
  • Responsible for the leadership of Consultants/Engineer of Records and business teams to complete work within the period stipulated in the project schedule, managing cost parameters according to the project budget, and deliver fit for purpose projects.
  • Develop and maintain Project Engineering / Project Management agreed standardization, guidance, and procedures to align with Global Industry Standards on Tailings Management (GISTM) including Stage Gate processes. Defines and maintains project engineering / project management best practices.
In This Role You Will:
  • Support projects in all stages of execution, operations, regional project teams and closure.
  • Provide field engineering and construction management support for all projects.
  • Develop proposal documentation for engineering and construction management bidding purposes.
  • Support project budgeting cycle and cost control.
  • Support and lead all risk and process hazard reviews on Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) projects.
  • Facilitate interaction of project team and management.
  • Support the development, implementation and management of the project development portal and knowledge management program required to effectively manage all project information.
  • Work closely with end users and business partners to develop project design criteria and scope of work for projects and related activities.
  • Manage all stakeholder expectations and ensure they are captured in project review documentation.
  • Develop project execution plans and support documentation for stage gate processes.
  • Coordinate strategic spares and purchasing synergies between projects in conjunction with Supply Chain Management.
Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Bachelor of Science / degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent in an applicable Engineering discipline.

 

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 10 – 12 years engineering and construction experience, equivalent combination of training and experience in water management and Tailings storage Facility construction are necessary.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software, especially spreadsheets.
  • Experience in operations practices and standards, environmental, community relations is preferred.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and to take initiatives.
  • High sense of responsibility, confidentiality, and security.
  • Minimum of Ghanaian Driver’s License C.

Working Conditions
  • Duties are split between office and field work, employee will be required to access construction site, process plant areas and mining areas daily.
  • The position requires effective leadership and performance management in a dynamic multi-tasking environment.
  • The position requires excellent oral and written communications skills, in order to effectively convey process and workflow concepts, automation concepts, and expected results to both subordinates and management.
  • Must be sensitive to community issues and cultural differences at the operations within the company.
