Newmont Mining Corporation is searching for a suitably qualified or experienced candidate to fill in the position of General Foreman – Process Operations

 

ABOUT THIS ROLE:
  • To manage the effective and efficient use of resources to achieve optimum plant utilization, throughput, recovery, and gold production targets in a safe and cost-effective manner.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

Process Operations Management

  • Develop, implement plans, and oversee the achievement of key Processing Production KPI’s using effective and efficient resources on an ongoing basis.
  • Oversee operations in all process areas (i.e., Crushing, Grinding, CIL, Elution, CCD, WSF and TSF).
  • Monitor adherence to operating parameters by the various Shift Supervisors and make all final decisions on operating conditions / parameters, and their associated Plant Production KPI’s.
  • Oversee the implementation of necessary corrective actions to minimise operating variations.
  • Collate daily production and operating reports received from the Shift Supervisors into overview reports.
  • Provide sign-off on purchase / warehouse requisitions and monitor time and attendance reports for the Shift Supervisors and their direct reports.
  • Collaborate with the metallurgical team and laboratory to ensure the optimum metallurgical performance of the process plant.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to achieve efficient plant equipment performance and availability.
  • Inform the Process Operations Superintendent of daily operational issues and the respective area(s) affected.
  • Escalate and notify the Process Superintendent of any detectable and / or prolonged production variance(s).
  • Manage maintenance requirements of the process plant to maintain production requirements and targets.
  • Oversee the coordination of production shutdowns and start-ups to minimise delays.
  • Champion continuous improvement programs which will assist in enhancing the performance of the process plant operation.

Process Operations Foreman Supervision

  • Supervise Shift Supervisors responsible for the operation of the process plant and associated facilities.
  • Instruct Shift Supervisors on safe work practices and conduct workplace inspections on a regular basis by:
    • inspecting and examining all operating areas at least once during the course of every scheduled shift.
    • meeting with both the Night Shift Supervisor and oncoming Day Shift Supervisor before every scheduled shift to brief each on the on-shift happenings and ensure complete handover.

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Ensure compliance of the Shift Supervisors and team to all Health and Safety, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont’s Integrated Management System.
  • Oversee that all regulatory requirements are strictly adhered to by the Shift Supervisors.
  • Conduct periodic safety meetings and inspections.
  • Maintain a high housekeeping standard in the process plant.
  • Manage the conduct and completion of incident / accident investigations and take corrective actions to prevent injury and / or re-occurrence.
  • Oversee that equipment isolations are performed in accordance to established procedures.
  • Oversee that security procedures are followed to minimize the opportunities for theft of gold bearing material or company property.

Staff Management

  • Supervise allocated staff member(s) by:
    • providing oversight and corrective action to the supervisory work done by the Shift Supervisors.
    • prioritizing and allocating tasks / responsibilities.
    • checking and controlling the quality of work outputs.
    • developing and training Shift Supervisors.
    • performing the first level of performance appraisal for the Shift Supervisors and other junior staff.
    • disciplining poor performance or actions (first level of discipline).
YOUR TRAINING, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE CHECKLIST:

Formal Qualification (Including Professional Registrations):

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Extractive Metallurgy or equivalent.
  • Process / Metallurgical Superintendent Certificate of Competency from the inspectorate division of Minerals Commission, Ghana.

 

Additional Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of mineral processing principles and industry standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of the work management process.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 – 10 years’ experience in metalliferous mining, with a minimum of 6 – 8 years in gold processing.
  • Minimum of 5 – 6 years’ experience managing large and diverse teams.
  • Previous process operating experience, particularly crushing, SAG and Ball Milling, Leach / CIL / CIP, Elution and Electrowinning.
  • Tailing Storage Facility management experience is preferable.

The employee may also be exposed to fumes, high temperature hazardous materials, sharp edges, dust, pinch-points, vibration, slippery surfaces etc.
    • Protective Equipment (PPE): Work requires mandatory PPE such as helmet, goggles, high visible clothing, safety harness, ear plugs and dust mask.
