Jhpiego is currently looking for dynamic individuals to fill the following position of Child Health Consultant

  • Duration of Contract: 15 days (April/May 2022)
  • Job Location: Accra
  • Reports to the Country Director
  • Supervises: N/A

 

Scope of Work (Duties and Responsibilities)

  • Work in close collaboration with Technical Officer at MCGL-Ghana, national, regional and local level MOH, more specifically with facility in-charges at selected facilities – on the following activities:
  • Lead assessment to identify gaps in HCWs’ capacity in accurate identification, diagnosis and treatment of childhood illnesses in outpatient settings in selected facilities.
  • Support planning, develop training materials, and initiate implementation of activities to strengthen HCWs knowledge and clinical competency to manage and treat childhood illnesses.
  • Develop mentoring and supportive supervision plan and supervision checklist for IMNCI services, including counselling the caregiver on feeding the sick infant and young child, by HCWs in selected facilities.
  • Provide support and develop guidelines to ensure data driven program support mechanism to improve quality IMNCI service delivery by HCWs.
  • Strengthen HCWs capacity in the accurate identification, diagnosis and treatment of childhood illnesses in outpatient settings in the selected facilities
  • Provide mentoring and supportive supervision on IMNCI, including counselling the caregiver on feeding the sick infant and young child in selected facilities.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Public health or social sciences postgraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • At least 5+ years of relevant work experience in successful implementation of child health program in Ghana.
  • A demonstrated track record revealing ability to work collaboration with national and local MOH/GHS personnel
  • Familiarity with evidence-based child health interventions and best practices as well as child health program focused strategies and policies in Ghana.
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Health/Ghana Health Service and clear understanding of the Ghanaian health system, including demonstrable experience working with or in partnership with district governments and international NGOs
  • Ability to work independently, in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform.
  • Passion and commitment to meeting agreed deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, sound judgment, and communication skills (oral, written and presentation).
  • Excellent computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office applications.
  • English fluency (verbal and written) required.
  • Ability to travel within Ghana.
