Academic Coach – Francophone at Webster University

Webster University, a worldwide institution, ensures high-quality learning experiences that transform students for global citizenship and individual excellence. Reporting to the Head of the Success Center, the Academic Coach will work in the Success Center to support students in their academic work to strengthen retention and progression and promote academic excellence and professional acumen among students at the University.

The role is part-time for 15 hours per week.

Job location: East Legon, Accra

Key Responsibilities include:

  • As an Academic Coach, provide students with academic support over 2 days per week
  • Assist students, especially Francophone students, with academic skills in the English Language – written and verbal communication, visual presentations, assignments, and general counseling
  • Maintain regular communications with student tutees in the academic year via emails and scheduled meetings to assess and support progression in their courses
  • Keep and maintain an in-depth record of all student visits to the Success Center
  • Liaise with Academic Resource Center on developments to ensure quality and excellence in student academic support
  • Recommend best practices to the Head of Success Center on the overall academic development of students in undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Support the development and facilitation of academic skills workshops for students to meet targets for student progression and retention
  • Collaborate with the Student Affairs team to develop and implement extra-curricular activities that support academic performance and professional development
  • Be proactive in providing advice, and activities that would be beneficial to the growth of the Success Center
  • Perform other administrative responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Our ideal candidate has:

·       Master’s Degree in Education or related field

·       Experience in counseling is an added advantage

·       At least three (3) years of experience teaching a similar role in a higher education setting

·       Outstanding organizational and planning skills

·       Ability to engage students using effective communication approaches

·       Relationship building and maintenance skills for partnership management

·       Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications

·       Patience, tolerance, and cultural awareness

·       Personable and high interpersonal skills

·       Focused and results-oriented

·       Ability to collaborate across teams
